Living in Genoa and Oslo. Simona Barbera is a musician, singer, performer and visual artist. In her installations she combines minimalist electronic pieces and sound installations, paying particular attention to the matter of sound in relation to voice and space, in form of sound compositions, text mixed with interpretation of poetry, visual work, drawings, photos and wall paintings. During the process composition, creating an environment is the primary aim, as something that exists as perception and most often draws out of a vision. The music event and the visual elements are an unique ambience. The sound-light, or setting-sound interactions originate in the investigation of, for example, La Monte Young and his “Dream Houses”. These concepts are put into concrete form through acoustic and environmental installations, field recordings, with its physical, emotional value. The ambiental elaboration, through the crossbreed of images and sounds, encompasses the relation between the visual and auditory dimension, that aims to dissolve the space and transcend the context.

Her visual worlds are characterised by powerful visions of nature and magical figurations; image space and sound space reflect each other.

In recent years, Simona Barbera has participated in numerous exhibitions (2009 Frederica Schiavo Gallery, Rome; Henie Onstad Museum, Oslo) and performance and music festivals in Norway, Ireland, Italy and Germany.
